As This Day Ends

sometimes
the dreams
that we live
breathe
even invite
into the sacred heart
that resides inside
imagination
in each of us
between the worlds
of images and words

there

becomes a point
when we have to say
goodbye
to the feelings inside
which, for a short time
glowed so bright
that we were felt
by stars that sighed
across vast distances
swallowed by the peace
this silenced veil
an unkempt lullaby
our only trail

so here we are
before window
lit by light so bright
the nature of desire
so clear - as the last light
says a fond adieu
to the world
before me
bare room
closed door
remains
as the happiness
can be felt
untethering
floating away

sad smile
hesitant nostalgia
warmth
from sleepy sun
caresses my back
with kisses and embrace
of sweet goodbye's
as this day ends

but sleep
as one knows
always holds the promise
of sunlit ground
where new dreams
may grow
